We are working together on four fronts to keep India healthy: PM Modi on health budget | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed a webinar on effective budget implementation in the health sector where he talked about the government’s approach to holistically improve the health sector with a focus on wellness.
Addressing the webinar via video conferencing, PM Modi said that in order to keep India healthy, the government is focussing on “four fronts” where the health sector needs to perform.
The four fronts are prevention from diseases and wellness; health infrastructure and healthcare professionals; access to treatment for the poorest of the poor and extending Mission Indradhanush to tribal areas.
The webinar comes in a series of such events where the Prime Minister is seen sharing sector-wise insights on what budget 2021-22 focuses on and why. On Monday, PM Modi had addressed a webinar on budget implementation in the defence sector.
Here are the highlights:
* This year’s budget allocation to the health sector is unprecedented. This shows our commitment to provide better healthcare to every countryman.
* From medical equipment to medicines; ventilators to vaccines; scientific research to surveillance infrastructure; from doctors to epidemiologists; we need to focus on these to keep India better prepared in case of a health crisis.
* The world noted the strength and experience demonstrated by India’s health sector during Corona. Today, India’s health sector’s reputation and trust in India’s health sector is at a new level all over the world.
* Our government treats health issues in a holistic manner rather than approaching it in pieces. We started focusing on wellness and not just treatment in the country. We adopted an integrated approach from prevention to cure.
* Covid-19 pandemic has taught us a lesson to be prepared to fight similar challenges in future. We have to be prepared for the increasing demand for the ‘Made in India’ vaccines.
* We are working together on four fronts to keep India healthy. The first front is the prevention of illness and promotion of wellness.
* The second front is to provide affordable and effective treatment for the poorest of the poor. Schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra are helping achieve this goal.
* The third front is to increase the quantity and quality of health infrastructure and health care professionals.
* The fourth front is to work on mission mode to overcome problems. Mission Indradhanush has been extended to the tribal and far-flung areas of the country.
